Syed Waliul Alam has a master’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He also got trained by International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) as a Trainer on Conflict Journalism. He prepared and presented key-note papers at different seminars on development journalism in Bangladesh, including the seminar on ‘Obligation of Academic Qualification in Journalism for Professional Journalists: Bangladesh's Perspective’' in 1989, Jointly organized by Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at the University of Dhaka and Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB)- the two highest level institutions of journalistic excellence in Bangladesh. He has also several publications on professional journalism and socio-political issues of Bangladesh.

Membership of Professional Bodies: Senior Members of National Press Club of Bangladesh, Founder Member of Dhaka Reporters Unity, Member of Dhaka Union of Journalist; Member, International Federation of Journalists. He has previously worked as Staff Reporter, Senior Staff Reporter, Special Correspondent for The Daily Al Muzadded, The Daily New Nation, The Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS)- the National News Agency of Bangladesh. He was assigned with Skeikh Hasina, the President of Bangladesh Awami League during 1991 -97 on behalf of the Daily Al Muzadded and The Daily New Nation. Mr. Alam also had covered the political activities of the then Opposition Leader while she came into power as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh in 1996 in Dhaka and across the country.

Syed Waliul Alam was also attached with the then Opposition Leader of Bangladesh Begum Khaleda Zia on behalf of Daily New Nation during the years 1998-99. Later he covered the Ministerial activities of the then Finance Minister of Bangladesh Md. Saifur Rahman from 2002-2006 as a special correspondent of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), the National News Agency of Bangladesh. He has also in his record the opportunity of being attached with Nobel Laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus from 2005-2007 on behalf of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and visited different countries abroad including Japan as a member of Dr Muhammad Yunus's delegation. During his last spell of journalism in Bangladesh. Syed Waliul Alam was attached with the then President Professor Ijauddin Ahmed at the Bangabhaban as the Bangabhaban Correspondent of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) during the years 2007-2008.

During the reign of Caretaker Government of Fakhruddin Ahmed in Bangladesh, Syed Waliul Alam left Bangladesh for the USA as an Immigrant. Here, in the USA, he began working as a Special Correspondent of Weekly Ajkal, a Bangla Language newspaper published from New York. Currently, Syed Waliul Alam is the Chief Editor of Weekly Probash, a mass circulated Bengali newspaper in New York.
